Why Do I Write Smut?

One of the many blogs I subscribe to is ERWA for writers of smut and we've been discussing why we write porn. To me it's a fascinating subject, both porn and writing!

Some people write to "spec" or in other words, be given a topic and produce a story about the topic. This is also similar to writing to a "market" or picking out a target audience and writing to that audience.

Others like me, write what personally turns you on and you hope that others enjoy the same smut as you do. From a practical sense, if you write a story that you can beat off to then it saves you money from having to buy a copy of Penthouse or Hustler and read Letters to the Editor (I only read the articles and never look at the pictures!). LOL

I find that I have problems writing about topics that don't ring my bell or that I don't have any experience in. The characters in my stories are left to their own devices and create the plot line themselves. Being in the Lifestyle and exposed to sexual situations on a regular basis, allows me to let my characters be little actors on the stage of my brain.

I'm able to create a world in my mind of the group of characters and let the story play out as I record it on the keyboard. Often I'll get a basic idea for a story and a kind of general direction I think the characters should go but when I start recording their actions, they don't always use my suggestions and the story will take a 90 degree bend.

I've had cases where I had to change the title and sometimes rewrite the beginning slightly to accommodate the change in the script. For me this is a natural way of writing and I just let the characters do what ever they want. I guess I have a sick mind but it's fun to create a play in my mind and just let the story play out. Or possibly it's schizophrenia? Just call me Sybil!

As always, I publish my smut on both Amazon Kindle and Smashwords. If you're interested then I encourage you to browse either of my authors pages for my stuff. There are samples of my work on both Goodreads.com and SmashWords.com. I have thoughtfully placed the links below.

My Goodreads page: Go to Goodreads.com and search for "Larry Archer"

My Amazon Kindle author's page: http://amazon.com/author/larryarcher

My SmashWords author's page: http://www.smashwords.com/profile/view/LarryArcher

As always, my works are graphic sex novels with a decent plot but definitely for adults only and not for those who do not enjoy reading sexual exploits.
