The acronym "House Party" is commonly used to refer to a swing party at someone's house. As a side note, to "Party" means to get together with another person and/or couple and screw each other's brains out. So if someone asks you "Do you guys party?", there is a fair possibility that they are in the Lifestyle.
Generally speaking there are several categories that parties fall into such as house, on-premise, or off-premise parties. As I've previously alluded to, a house party is typically a small group of couples who get together at someones private home to party.
On-Premise parties are typically held at a hotel or other location where you can get together and party with others "on-premise" or at that location. So the location needs to have bedrooms or at least a comfortable couch.
Off-Premise parties are often held at a bar where you mingle with other couples and if you meet someone or another couple and want to party, you have to go somewhere else (like your house or a motel), hence the name "Off-Premise". Often off-premise get-togethers are more of a social event and less of a get naked and lay in a pile event. LOL
If you are new to the party scene, it's been our experience that the bigger the party, the better as there is normally less pressure to get together with another person. Example: It's your first time and every one else (including your husband) is off in a bedroom and you are alone in the living room with somebody's husband that you are not really attracted to. It puts pressure on you to do a charity fuck when you really are not comfortable with it.
While I haven't been to every house party, however that does sound like fun, everyone is expected to understand the word "NO" but it is a little more difficult when you are the only two left. In a large house party or a organized event, it is a lot easier to say, "Maybe later but I'm having fun meeting people now."
The bottom line with the Lifestyle is that it should be an exciting experience for both of you and something that you want to enjoy and possibly try new things except I'd recommend that you stay away from the Kirby vacuum.
